Earth Day/Day of the Child was held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the City Plaza. Over 55 agencies participated and provided a wealth of information and resources to the thousands of Watsonville residents that attended the event. One of the goals of this event is to educate the public about simple things they can do to help protect the environment such as to recycle, reduce waste, save water, reduce litter and cut back on the use of plastics. The City's Public Works Department and Parks & Community Services collaborate each year to make this event happen. The California Conservation Corpse volunteer their time and help with the set-up and cleanup while the Police Cadets take care of traffic control. Next year's event will be held on Sunday, April 21st at the City Plaza.
Without our generous sponsors, this festival would not be free for our local families and non-profits. Sponsors allow us to bring special local talent to the stage, booths for partnering non-profits, provide recreation activities, and offer special incentives like reusable bags. Kaiser Permanente is a new "Wetlands Superhero" Sponsor, along with our loyal Register Pajaronian and the Survivor's Healing Center, Bay Federal Credit Union, Triple P and Lakeside Organic Gardens are our amazing "Ecological Educator" level of supporters and of course, the City of Watsonville is the Organizing "Clean Community" sponsor.
