Captain Tony Magdayao was born and raised in Monterey Ca. He was first introduced to law enforcement by taking a police science class while attending Monterey High School. From there he developed an interest in the profession which eventually would develop into a lifelong career. Tony received an Associate of Arts Degree from Monterey Peninsula College while studying Administration of Justice and he holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute & University.
Tony is a 23 year veteran of the Watsonville Police Department. His tenure with the Watsonville Police Department began in 1994 where he was sworn in by Chief Terry Medina. Tony has served the community of Watsonville in several different capacities. He has been assigned to the operations division as a patrol officer; he was assigned to the Direct Action Response Team which is a community based street enforcement team. He was assigned as a task force agent for the Santa Cruz Co. Narcotic Enforcement team. He is a court certified expert in narcotics and hard drugs.
While assigned to the task force he was also cross-designated as a federal agent with the FBI. After concluding that assignment, he served as a Corporal/Field Training Officer and Master Officer. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2007 and assigned to the operations division where he supervised several different patrol teams. In 2015 he was assigned as an administrative Sergeant handling community based projects and supervising the Field Training Program for new officers.
He is currently assigned as one of the Operations Division Captains. In addition Tony spent 13 years volunteering in his community with the Meals on Wheels organization delivering meals to the needy.
Tony is married and enjoys spending time with their family and friends. They have interests in learning new cultures and traveling. Exercise is a big part of their lifestyles.
