18th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Awards

Santa Cruz County Public Health recently issued new recommendations to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community. These recommendations have been made in consultation with the California Department of Public Health, according to the best information available at this time.

Based on these recommendations, the 18th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Community Awards has been postponed to a later date. For those who purchased tickets, refunds will be issued.

The Cesar E. Chavez Community Awards recognizes young people (ages 22 and under), adults role models, schools, youth serving organizations and businesses who support and foster youth leadership in the community. This award honors individuals and organizations who intentionally engage youth in positive-prosocial activities that provide opportunities for young people to foster and develop new skills and knowledge that empower them to help others and contribute to their community. This event is hosted by the Friends of Watsonville Park and Community Services and the City of Watsonville.


Awards will be given in each category:

  • Young Person (Age 22 or under)
  • Adult Role Model
  • School
  • Youth Serving organization
  • Businesses

Nominations may be submitted online or completed on paper.

All nominations must be submitted by March 6, 2020 at 5pm.

Those selected will be recognized at the Cesar E. Chavez Community Awards on:

The evening will include a welcome by our Mayor Rebecca Garcia and an inspiring keynote address. The evening will culminate with dinner and the presentation of awards. This year’s event theme is “Determination,” one of the ten values recognized by Cesar Chavez Service Clubs. This is the value of knowing that through unbreakable willpower, commitment, patience, optimism, and a strong mind, people can overcome any obstacle.

Event Tickets

Awardees will receive one dinner ticket and a plus one. Additional tickets may be purchased online at eventbrite.com. Tickets are $15 each. We highly encourage those who nominate an award recipient to be present at the event to escort their nominee.
