Coastal Cleanup Day: Watsonville’s Annual Deep Cleaning
As children we are taught to cleanup after our own mess. While it’s important that we each do our part to reduce our waste and keep Watsonville clean, there will always be the forgotten pieces of trash, and like dirty dishes piling up in the sink, nobody knows who’s responsible for them. These ignored debris include items like cigarette butts, plastic straws, bottle caps, and food wrappers that can be mistaken for food and accidently eaten by our local wildlife or end up polluting our waterways. Here’s where our everyday Watsonville heroes get involved! Coastal Cleanup Day is one of the largest volunteer events on the planet, engaging millions of people from hundreds of countries to pick up trash and prevent pollution in wetlands, rivers, and the ocean. Give us a hand by joining us at one of our three City-hosted cleanup sites on Saturday, September 16th from 9AM-Noon. We will provide a safety talk, all necessary cleanup supplies and snacks. Please remember to wear sunscreen, dress in layers, and bring a reusable water bottle! Every single piece of garbage removed saves the lives of our wetland and ocean animals and helps create a more beautiful Watsonville for everyone to enjoy!
You can pre–register your group to volunteer at one of our sites or just show up at your favorite location.
If you would like to lead your own, additional cleanup site in Watsonville, or would like more general information about the event, please contact Rachel.Kippen@cityofwatsonville.org or call 831-768-3165.
