[ARCHIVED] Clifford Avenue Proposed Traffic Calming Measures

In late 2017 City staff received a petition requesting neighborhood traffic calming on Clifford Avenue from Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to address concerns with speeding. On February 28, 2018 a neighborhood meeting was held to discuss concerns and present potential ideas to address speeding along Clifford Avenue. There were several conceptual plans prepared and discussed that included the following elements as possible traffic calming features for streets in the neighborhood.

These area median islands are placed in the center of the street and serve to reduce lane widths and slow down traffic. Proposed locations on Clifford Ave.
  • between Montebello Drive and Alisa Circle
  • near 324 Clifford Dr. by Montebello Drive
  • near 310 Clifford
Chokers are islands on the sides of the street and can be used alone or also with other elements (*) such as the center islands (photo to the left). Proposed locations on Clifford Dr.
  • at intersection with Sherwood Ct.
  • at intersections with Montebello Dr.
  • at Rosewood Drive
  • near 310 Clifford Dr.

These are extensions of the sidewalk at the corners into the street to make the street narrower. Proposed locations on Clifford Dr.

These are small raised circular areas installed in the center of an intersection. Proposed location on Clifford Dr.

If you live on any of these areas, please take a few moments to fill out the survey so that City staff can have a better understanding of your concerns and opinions. Include comments or additional traffic calming suggestions you may have seen in other communities that seem effective. Survey will be available online through June 25, 2018.
