Public Works Profiles - Everybody Loves Ray Martin

No, not Raymond, yes Ray Martin! We are kicking off National Public Works Week by celebrating Ray's commitment and service to our Watsonville community and his irreplaceable role working for the public good.

Public Works Profiles - Everybody Loves Ray Martin

Playing for Keeps

On May 21st, 2018, we recognized the 31-year anniversary of Ray Martin with the City of Watsonville Public Works as our Integrated Waste Supervisor. An exemplary and inclusive leader, Ray wears many hats, including Assistant Landfill Manager, and he also coordinates our Public Drop Off facility, our street sweeper team, our Solid Waste Collections, and our Customer Service.

Ray clearly enjoys keeping himself busy as he supports all areas of Public Works, spending his time in the field ensuring that daily operations run smoothly. His job, like his team, is dynamic and each day offers new opportunities to solve challenges while maintaining a high level of service to our residents.

“I enjoy my job because I know that through my efforts I am taking care of the people in our community and the environment. We don’t just pick up garbage, we keep our City clean, our streets swept, and we reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible."

Outside of work, Ray remains a man of many talents. He loves to BBQ for his wife (celebrating a similar anniversary, 32 years♡) and three sons, and he loves to watch soccer (GO Chivas), bike ride, and walk his family's dog Meechy. He's a drummer, a singer and a song writer, and he helps out in his church choir. If that wasn't enough, he also teaches adult Christian classes and volunteers through the Knights of Columbus to help those in need. He happens to be one of the nicest guys around with the biggest heart. We know we got really lucky that fateful day 31 years ago when Ray joined our team, and we are so grateful he stuck around. THANK YOU RAY!
