The City of Watsonville's Public Works Conservation Academy provided more than 2,000 local students and 200 adults trips to our Monterey Bay coast in partnership with the California Coastal Conservancy.
In partnership with the California Coastal Conservancy and due to their generous grant support, the City's Public Works Conservation Academy was able to serve more than 2,000 students and 200 adults who've had the special opportunity to explore the coast along our local beaches since 2016. Below is a postcard that students received on their visits.
Student groups were provided bus transportation to Palm State Beach where they helped to cleanup #microplastic while experiencing our stunning Monterey Bay first-hand. Though many Watsonville residents live within four miles of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, youth access to our coastlines can be challenging without consistent transportation options. That is why we have been especially grateful to be able to offer this pivotal life experience to our students, and they have had SO MUCH FUN!
To keep the ocean conservation momentum going, Watsonville residents and volunteer groups are encouraged to check out our free Coastal Conservancy litter collection kit by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This helpful supply bag contains 35 trash grabbers, trash and recycle bags, microtrash counters, litter tally sheets, and listed safety tips to share with volunteers. Please help us spread the word and keep our coasts clean, especially during our summer busy beach season!
