Rudy always dreamt of having his very own BMX bike (they’re pricey). But he never imagined that Watsonville police officers would be the ones buying it for him!
The 11-year-old was on his way to negotiate with a seller, who put up an online posting for a bike, when he ran into some familiar faces; Officers Javier Ayala, Fernando López and Paco Bribiesca.
Rudy filled them in on his plans to convince this person to lower the price on the online posting. The officers didn’t think it was a good idea for Rudy to do this on his own and let alone meet with a stranger. So instead, they took him to Watsonville Cyclery. This local business was generous enough to give the officers the bike at a discounted price ($500).
Our officers, including some from our tactical bike team, also made sure he got a new helmet and a bike lock (safety first). Rudy is now one happy kid riding around on his dream bike.
