July is Parks & Rec Month

Parks and recs month

This July, the City of Watsonville is celebrating Parks and Rec Month with a variety of fun activities planned for residents of all ages and abilities.

Fireworks, lawn chairs, barbecues, and waves... Those are a few things that come to mind when we think of the month of July. But did you know that July is also Parks and Recreation Month? Parks and Recreation month is when we, "park and rec peeps", promote the benefits of out local parks and encourage the community to go outside and explore our parks and facilities, all while enjoying outdoor activities.

Here in Watsonville, the Parks and Community Service Department is much more than just playgrounds, parks, the Youth Center, and summer camps. We provide programs and facilities that play a vital role in preventing crime and instilling lifelong habits leading to a healthy lifestyle and a safety community.

Our team had been working hard to offer an array of fun activities for the entire family. To help us celebrate the month, we will be offering some FREE activities for the enjoyment of all:

  • Tuesday, July 31st- 7pm-8:30pm - Veterans Hall - Adult open Basketball
  • Every Friday in July- Callaghan Park - What better way to end the week than wit ha free movie under the stars. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and join us as we watch family movies every Friday. Movies begin half hour before sunset.

These are just a few activities that the REC team has planned. Join us for one activity or for all events and celebrate with us. Discover how we make Watsonville an ideal place to live, work, and play. For more information about all of our programs and services, visit us at or search Twitter and Instagram using #DiscoverJuly.
