We’re taking on a new approach to build and foster strong bonds with young kids, and we’re doing this by arming officers with soccer balls.
These soccer balls serve as an icebreaker and give the officers an opportunity to have a one-on-one interaction with kids in their neighborhood or at parks.
“He didn’t want to talk to me and now he doesn’t want to leave,” said Officer Sergio Bañuelos during a mini-soccer “match” with a preschooler.
We hope that during the time spent with the officers, the kids will realize that the men and women of Watsonville Police are not “scary” and they’re just like everyone else.
