Lieutenant Jorge Zamora was born and raised in
Watsonville and graduated from local schools. His parents, originally
from Michoacàn, Mexico, were local field workers when he was growing up.
Education
Jorge has a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from Saint Mary's
College of California. He also possesses a Bachelor of Science in
Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University. Jorge
is a life long learner and a 21st century leadership practitioner.
Career
Jorge's law enforcement career began in 1991 when he became a
Watsonville Police Department cadet. He later joined the Community
Service Officer program and shortly after attended the police academy.
At the age of 21, Jorge was sworn in as a police officer for WPD.
Experience
Jorge's law enforcement experience includes patrol, gang and narcotic
enforcement, S.W.A.T., detectives, field training officer, hostage
negotiations, walking beat, Regional Occupational Program instructor and
youth mentorship. Jorge is also a criminal justice management course
instructor at the Union Institute and University undergraduate
program. He is a court recognized gang expert and the departments
S.W.A.T. commander.
Jorge promoted to sergeant in 2009 where he supervised a team of patrol
officers and later administered the Field Training Officer Program.
Community Involvement
In October 2011, he promoted to lieutenant and was assigned as the
Community Services manager, where he oversaw the School Resource Officer
program, parking enforcement, Neighborhood Watch program, guest speaker
requests, the Post Incident Team, and the Ride-A-Long program. He is
currently one of the operations commanders for the patrol division.
Jorge serves on the P.V.P.S.A. board, is a member of Freedom Rotary and
the current chair of the Youth Violence Prevention Task Force.
